Thank God for Caller ID. I could see immediately that the call was coming from a telemarketer. As I let the call go straight to the answering machine (yes, I am a Luddite on Line 1 with the machine. Our Line 2 has voice mail. Go figure!), Jacob asked me who was calling. I told him that it was someone trying to sell us something. His reply: "Don't they know that we already have everything we need to be happy?"
Wow - and you bet I will remind him of that statement the next time he is licking the Lego boxes at Toys R Us!
What do you already have right in front of you that's making you happy right now?

A Sleep-Deprived Kid Was in Front of Me Today
This morning at breakfast, my 8 year old son Jacob sat in his chair with his sweatshirt hood over his head, trying to keep out the noise and light that boldly announced: MORNING! It's the second day of school and the first day of school had caught up with him in a big way. Here's what it looked like: http://img34.yfrog.com/i/soyt.jpg/ .
One he was off to school, I walked into my office and saw PILES where, two weeks ago, I had nice, shiny, surfaces. What did I do? Just ignored them -- and then contributed to them with more stuff. If I had had a sweatshirt hood, I would have pulled it over my head, too, to avoid the announcement: YOU HAVE LET YOUR ORGANIZATION SYSTEM GO!
When you "pull the hood over your eyes" today, what are you trying NOT to see?
Let me know!

The Baggies Right in Front of Me
My 8 year old twins, Jacob and Sophie, and I walked our own "Green Mile" to get voluntarily punctured with flu shots, a baggie in each hand. One baggie was filled with ice cubes for our own personal numbing system, and the other was filled with Milk Duds and Dots, for our own personal reward system. The baggies works, and God-willing, so will the shots.
Whether you are preventing physical or emotional pain, or simply rewarding yourself, I want to know, "What's in YOUR baggies?"

A Hot Guy at the Beach was Right in Front of Me Today
I was with my sister-in-law at the beach today, and a gorgeous young man walked passed us. I recognized him immediately. "Hi, David" I called. David stopped to chat, and my sister-in-law looked at me (in awe, I will imagine) and asked, "you know this guy?". "Of course!" I said, and I introduced David to her. My association with Mr. Handsome clearly showed off a cool side of me that she had never realized I had, and she was incredulous...until I mentioned that I was good friends with his parents. All of a sudden, "hip" morphed into "old" and then, seemingly "decrepid." Yes, I knew the hot guy but through his folks. And that meant that my cool factor, in her eyes, grew awfully cold, awfully fast. But, of course, it presented a question right in front of me:
What's perfect about your age right now?
